‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ | The Body 5x16

Anya’s terror and frustration with the world, in general, is one of the strongest things in Buffy, and this was exceptional.

The most gutting thing about this scene was that Anya, who so often doesn’t understand human experiences and expectations, can’t grasp how this woman she knew can just suddenly not exist anymore, and then you realize that no one else can understand it either.
Death is arbitrary and baffling and horrible and never quite makes sense, and Joss Whedon *gets* that, which is why it always feels like a punch to the gut when he kills off a character.
Pretty much my favourite episode of Buffy, despite the fact that I can hardly ever bring myself to watch it.
